I chose the image from Buffy as I was most attracted to it. The visual style of the image influenced how I drew the other images. I know the style was meant to be kept simple but it didn’t make sense and would have looked off to not keep to the same style.
I chose to make my character a bartender as this made the most sense since the setting is a bar. I did find ignoring where the image came from and not following the story difficult as my mind would fill in the blanks.
I wanted to make clear who the bartender is so the jump in the panels are the result of fitting some back story in. I started with him on his break. I feel that the fact that you see him smoking tells you a fair amount about his character and then the image of the toddler on the phone gives a bit of back story and knowledge about his life. I also wanted to show that he is tired, through the bags under his eyes, to add more context.
From here I would like to show the character going home to his family and expanding on his life beyond his work. I feel like they may be struggling financially and that he may have a second job.
